Early and Late Check-In: How It Works and Why an Extra Fee May Apply
19.02.2026
When planning a trip and booking a short-term apartment, guests often ask: is it possible to check in earlier or check out later — and why does this sometimes involve an additional fee? Below we explain how early and late check-in works and when exceptions may apply.
Standard Check-In and Check-Out Times

Short-term rentals follow standard time frames that allow apartments to be prepared between stays:

  • check-in — from 2:00 PM
  • check-out — until 12:00 PM, regardless of the check-in time

The time between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM is used for:

  • cleaning the apartment;
  • changing bed linen and towels;
  • checking appliances and utilities;
  • preparing the apartment for the next guests.

Early Check-In: When It’s Possible and Why It’s Paid

If you need to check in before 2:00 PM, this is considered an early check-in.

In standard cases, this service is charged at 50% of the daily rate.

Why early check-in is charged

Because:

  • the apartment must be fully ready earlier than usual;
  • previous guests may check out on the same day;
  • or the apartment is reserved exclusively for you for a longer period.

Essentially, the apartment is held for one guest beyond the standard rental time.

When Free Early Check-In Is Possible

In some cases, early check-in may be free of charge.

This is possible if:

  • the apartment was vacant before your arrival;
  • no additional preparation is required after previous guests;
  • there are no overlapping bookings afterward.

⚠️ Please note: free early check-in is not guaranteed and depends on the actual availability on your arrival date.

Additional condition

For free early check-in, guests must collect the keys independently at our nearby reception/concierge desk.

This allows us to organize the check-in without involving staff or additional costs.

Late Check-Out: Conditions and Fees

If you need to stay in the apartment after 12:00 PM, the following rules apply:

  • check-out until 5:00 PM — additional charge of 50% of the daily rate
  • check-out after 5:00 PM — charged as a full additional night
Why late check-out may cost a full night

After 5:00 PM, the apartment can no longer be prepared for new guests the same day,

meaning it remains occupied for the entire day.

Important Note: Availability Depends on Occupancy

Early check-in and late check-out are available only if the schedule allows.

This depends on:

  • bookings before or after your stay;
  • cleaning schedules;
  • overall apartment occupancy.

That’s why such requests should always be confirmed in advance.

When Guests Most Often Request These Options
  • early check-in — after overnight trains or early flights;
  • late check-out — for evening departures;
  • during holidays and peak periods, when timing needs to be fixed in advance.

Conclusion

Early check-in and late check-out are not penalties or inconveniences — they are optional services that allow greater flexibility when planning your stay.

If early check-in is essential, it’s best to book it as a paid service.

If the apartment is available, a free option may sometimes be possible — subject to confirmation and independent key collection.

The key point is to discuss all details in advance, as availability can change.
